Our Ethos
Introduction
Our primary goal at CCM is to love God, and to love other people. We believe that these are not two different goals, but two sides of the same goal.
The People
The people we seek to love and serve are damaged and vulnerable. If you volunteer with us, you will find yourself seeking to help people who frequently:
- don't appreciate what you do;
- don't want to be helped;
- deceive you; and
- deceive themselves.
Us
We, the staff and volunteers doing the work, are not nice people who have our lives sorted out and who have all the answers.
We are not nice people who are helping nasty, dysfunctional people whose lives are in a mess and who need us to help them.
We are all dysfunctional. We are all, at times, nasty, selfish and mean. We are all prone to deception and self-deception. We are in the process of growing, of learning how to be the people that God created us to be.
The important thing for us, and for the people we serve, is not that we have arrived in any sense, but that we are moving in the right direction. That we are following Jesus.
