Paul & Sue Blocksidge:
Prayer Letter - Winter 2004-5

The Christmas puppet tour this year visited schools, churches, children's clubs and Crisis Centre, Bristol. We performed 68 shows in the three weeks leading up to Christmas. The script was a fusion of Dicken's Christmas carol and the Nativity and a few surprises along the way. The script came from OAC Nottingham, who used it last year and we adapted it for a more local appeal.

We incorporated more music, opening with a song to give it a pantomime feel and our puppets were choreographed this time, which was a new departure for those who made up the team this time. Paul and Sue worked with Jon Bonner again and Traian and Lidia came from Romania and really helped raise our standard of puppetry, as they are vastly more experienced than us.

One of the highlights of the tour for us was our visit to the Crisis Centre. They run a drop in cafe to feed the homeless as well as offering their clients other services and we were asked to bring the show to the Christmas party.

We were pleased to do this, but did wonder what sort of reaction this adult only audience might have to this way of presenting the gospel. It was brilliant, there was interaction between the audience and the puppets throughout the show, and at the end Anni Davey felt led to reinforce the gospel message. One guy who had made a commitment to Christ and then turned away again was convicted to turn back to God and several people had good conversations with open bibles on their laps. We hope we are asked again next year!
