to people with life-disrupting problems |
From the Bristol Evening Post, Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 16:37.
People will be braving the cold in a sponsored sleep-out to raise money for charities for the homeless.
Nearly 90 people have so far signed up to take part in the event on Friday, where they will spend the night sleeping in the grounds of Pip 'n' Jay Church on Tower Hill, near Old Market Roundabout.
Each person will be raising money for one of nine Bristol organisations, including Crisis Centre Ministries, the Bristol Methodist Centre and the Julian Trust.
The event is being run by Bristol Christian Action Network (BCAN), who ran a smaller sleep-out last year.
Paul Hazelden, 51, from Sea Mills, of the group, said: "This is about raising money to help homeless people in Bristol, but it's also about raising awareness of what people who sleep outside every night have to go through."
"Homeless people have to deal with this every night. It is not a pleasant thing for them, they are not safe like we will be on Friday, they might not have a sleeping bag like we will."
