and clients
in the context of Bristol's inner city areas.
Dear Friends and Supporters
We have had a few items that couldn't really wait until June's prayer email so we hope you don't mind receiving a interim prayer letter from us!
T is a lady who has been committed to change from her previous addictive lifestyle. She has two very young children and shows amazing skills as their mother. Of course, it is really had work for her to look after her children and her home and particularly the next month or so is likely to be difficult.
Please pray for her, that she will receive the support she needs and that she will have the strength to continue to stay drug free and grow as a person.
What she needs at present is practical support for a half day a week, taking her shopping and helping around the home. In this case, the person would need to be a lady and would need to have a car. We are open to consider the possibility of more than one person being involved, bearing in mind that a weekly commitment may not be realistic for some people. If you would like to know more about being involved in this way, please get in touch with the office.
Currently Alan is dealing with five people waiting for rehabilitation assessments. One of these is a young man coming over from Cardiff and another needs to be given an earlier assessment date. Please pray for these five that they will get much needed help and also for peace and the presence of God in their very chaotic lives. Another man is due to appear in court; please pray that he is sent to rehab to deal with his addictions rather than to prison.
We want to give God thanks for a young man who was mentioned in the last Streetwise. He lived homeless on the outskirts of Bristol, was given some accommodation for a while by Woodlands Church and is now in supported housing. He has been in employment for two months and is very excited about going to Wembley tomorrow!
We received a phone call today from a lady in Yate, near Bristol, whose stepson was attacked by a neighbouring family last night. The police have been involved but the whole family feels very threatened and vulnerable. Please could you pray for the family's protection, for the neighbours too and for the stepson.
This is a recently refurbished Homeless Assessment Centre. They offer basic bed and breakfast accommodation, assessing clients for ways of moving on as well as providing medical advice and training facilities. Andy is considering going there to run the LITE course and is currently in talks with staff there. As team we are investigating the pros and cons of this move and would ask you to pray about the final decision and if possible feed back to Andy or Paul with any thoughts you may have.
The Wild Goose is now open every week day serving food and drinks. We are building up teams of volunteers to run sessions headed up by a Duty Manager. If you could give up some hours during the day either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to come and be part of such a team please contact Alan or Lisa.
Serving in the shop can involve just washing up, a little cooking, serving food and helping to tidy up but as you get more involved there are lots of opportunities to chat to clients and get to know them. (Honestly this really is the best bit!) So don't be shy, come along and try out volunteering here for a few sessions - we guarantee it to be fun, busy, interesting and rewarding.
There is never a dull moment in the Wild Goose!
We have a list we can email out with suggested store cupboard essentials for the Wild Goose. If you feel you can help us by collecting food then please get in touch.
Please could everyone note that this month's CCM prayer meeting is at the home of Graham Donald, 39 Woodland Grove, on Thursday 29 May at 7.30 pm. It would be great to see some new faces.
Thank you once again for your love, prayers, generosity and constant support.
Best wishes
Claire Collins
