Susan's Story

I had been in an abusive relationship for five years when the violence just got worse and my husband started trashing the house. I was so scared for my life because I also became pregnant. I started staying at friends’ and family places, then I heard about Spring of Hope. When I first started going there I was in such a bad way and couldn’t see what my future would hold for me and my baby. But Val helped me to make doctor’s appointments, housing appointments and came with me too. I got into a hostel and am now rehoused. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy and I have finally left my husband. Val and I still speak every two weeks and we meet up every month. She is there for me and asks how I am getting on with things and supports me when I need her. Spring of Hope gave me the space and support to look at my life and to work out what to do for things to be better.
